story of as'hab al qaria

As’hab Al Qaria ( People Of Town, Dwellers of Town)

Introduction

Before we dive into the story, let us know the background of the period when the story took place. Surah Yaseen was revealed in Mecca during a time when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was facing intense opposition from the Meccan elites.
This period was the beginning of Islam and these elites were staunchly opposing Islam. They ridiculed and oppressed the followers and even persecuted them.
Through this chapter, Allah (SWT) reminds the Meccans of His power and warns them of the consequences of their disbelief. This story of As’hab Al-Qaria is one such warning, and it serves as a powerful reminder of the Day of Judgment.

The Warning of the Messengers

The story of As’hab Al-Qaria begins with a city that is referred to as Al-Qaria. The people of this city were wicked and corrupt, and they refused to believe in Allah (SWT) and His messengers. As a result, Allah (SWT) sent two messengers to warn them and call them to the truth.

However, these people rejected the messengers and continued in their disbelief. This angered Allah (SWT), and He decided to punish them for their arrogance and disobedience. Allah (SWT) then sent a third messenger to the people of Al-Qaria.

The Messengers warned the people of Al-Qaria of the punishment that awaited them if they did not believe in Allah (SWT) and repent for their sins. They warned them that Allah SWT would punish and destroy them if they continued in their disbelief. But As’hab Al- Qaria refused all the advice and said ” We see evil omen for you. You bring evil things to us. If you do not stop, we will stone you”.

The Young Man who was rewarded with Paradise

The Messengers warned them that they are themselves inviting an evil omen on them. Then, from the far end of the city a young man came running. He shouted, ” Oh! My people, follow the Messengers, obey the Messengers. They are not seeking any wages for giving this knowledge. They are just following the command of Allah SWT.”

He said, “Why would I not worship the one who has created me? Why should I not worship the One to whom I will go back to? How can I worship other gods? If Allah (SWT) intends to harm me, these other gods would never be able to help me against Ar-Rehman. So, they will not be able to save me from the punishment of Allah (SWT). Verily, If I do that, I am in plain error. I have come to believe in your Master.”

Inni Amantu Bi Rabbikum Fasma’un

Then, The As’Hab Al Qaria tied him up and killed him. The disbelievers tied him and he shouted,” Inni Amantu Bi Rabbikum Fasma’un“- Everyone, I believe in your Lord, My Lord. So Listen, Believe in Him”. He tried to save his people out of love for them but they neglected his warnings.

As soon as he was killed, it was said to him,” Enter Paradise“. When he saw the mesmerizing bounties of Jannah, he said, “Would that my people knew! My Lord has forgiven me, and made me of the honored ones!
